Since I was a child, everyone I met told me that one should be a morning person. You should always go early to be, and rise up early that is how you become productive and intelligent. All these notions about morning and night were also supported by poems and sayings like:
Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
उठ जाग मुसाफिर भोर भई, अब रैन कहाँ जो सोवत है
जो सोवत है सो खोवत है, जो जगत है सोई पावत है
and many more…
This made me a morning person, and frankly, till today, I prefer waking up early, then sleeping late. However, there are some days, when no matter what you find your best mate at night. When the world is off to sleep, the lights are off, there is silence all around, I wake up in the middle of the night, and connect with my inner self.
This is also the time, when new thoughts, new stories, dreams and fresh ideas flood my mind, and without any disturbance, I can slightly sit with my laptop and just write down my thoughts.
The beauty of the night
I often wonder, why is it the night that brings out my true self, and this is what I have discovered. The night is the time when your mind chatter is at rest, instead of wondering about the stock market, your office politics, or the noisy neighbours, you can just stay silent.
There is no one to talk to, no one to discuss, just you and your thoughts, nothing else to look at or to work with. You will often hear people saying, that at night your inner demons come out. Well, I completely agree with that, but what we have tagged as demons, are our thoughts that we very casually hide behind the day noise and then term them as demons at night.
Only if we all had the courage to face our demons and act upon them, we would be living in a happier, more tolerant society.
Some of the best decisions i have taken is during these night-outs with myself, which include:
Starting a fresh start to my life.
Getting married to my best friend.
Starting Brain Cuddle
Letting go off certain people in my life
and today to move to Pune…
The night is dark, and silence surrounds
I sit by myself thinking out loud
Yesterday was life, today I live,
But what if tomorrow never forgives.
Am I living the life I deserve,
or is it a drama that incurves?
Let the monsters come out,
maybe they know the truth.
It will help me identify my true ray,
And unravel what’s right, when the sun shines at day.
Willian Blake in his poem ‘ Night‘ writes
The sun descending in the west,
The evening star does shine;
The birds are silent in their nest,
And I must seek for mine.
The moon, like a flower,
In heaven’s high bower,
With silent delight
Sits and smiles on the night.
Dylan Thomas in his poem ‘ Do not go gentle into that good night‘ writes:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
So, while the night is dark and silent, it is not to be ignored. It can be life-changing for all, for some it can mean a good night’s sleep that refreshed them for an early morning day of work, and for some, it can mean the birth of a new idea, a new project and a new life.
